During the dot-com boom of the late 1990's cross-browser compatiblity wasn't given a great deal of thought. The two dominant browsers (Internet Explorer and Netscape) held well over 90% of the market so providing your website worked in these you were doing pretty well.
Nowadays things are a little more complicated - not only do we have the buggy and widely criticised Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 to contend with, there are a multitude of other browsers to consider.
After Internet Explorer, the most important browser that your website should be compatible with is Mozilla Firefox. According to recent statistics Firefox accounts for around 30% of the browser market. The other benefit of ensuring your site works in this browser is that Firefox is a standards compliant browser. If your site is standards compliant there is a very good chance it will also be compatible with many of the other browsers available.
Other common browsers include Safari, Opera and more recently Google Chrome. Add to that the every growing list of mobile browsers (iPhone, Android, Opera Mini etc.) and it begins to become clear why cross-browser compatibility is more important now than ever before.
At Design Fresh the websites we produce are tested in all the major browsers so you can rest assured your site will be accessible to as many customers as possible.
